"At the beginning of this past summer I lived and painted for a month in the heart of New York City.  As part of the experience of living there and of riding the subways, I felt the city's intensity, its vast cultural richness and its infinite possibilities.

The movement through the tunnels underground allowed me to feel with great unmitigated force the alienation, the loneliness and the remoteness of the anonymous individual in the big city.

The works on display are a "sub-text" from my own personal perspective, a text in the language of painting, on what is taking place under the surface."
